Sertomas only scored one.

Bonner Springs has been making a cakewalk of the 11-12 age division, and when it faced Sertomas again Thursday, it brought an undefeated record to the ballpark with it.

So the stage was set for a showdown between the two toughest teams in the age division.

If Sertomas was to win, the team needed to first stop Bonner Springs’ high-octane offense, which typically nets 15-plus runs.

And it did.

The June game was a batting show: Last week’s game was a pitching contest.

In the game, 28 players struck out, 14 walked and two made hits.

“I was really proud of the way we were able to hold them,” said Sertomas coach Peggy Pistora.

And her team also won the game-long battle to put points on the board against such hot pitching.

At the close of the sixth inning Sertomas was ahead 3-2. It batted last, so all it had to do was get three outs and walk away with redemption for its only loss.

Bonner Spring came out swinging, but with a runner on third, Sertomas first baseman Kalie Hileman snaked a couple line drives to stop the tying run from scoring.

Sertomas held the lead and won the game 3-2.

Bonner Springs is no longer undefeated.

That same night the other two Tonganoxie 11-12 age division teams squared off. In that meeting, River City Gardening beat Community National Bank 15-4.

On Thursday, in the 9-10 age division, Tonganoxie’s Himpel Homes beat Basehor 11-1. That same night Midwest Carpet beat Bonner Springs 6-2.

In the 7-8 age division, Tonganoxie Civic Club beat Chappell Hill Sewing 7-0 on Thursday. That night American Family Insurance beat Edwardsville 7-0.

A 7-0 win is awarded to a team when the opposition can’t field a team and has to forfeit.

In the 13-14 age division, the two Tonganoxie teams played each other on Thursday.

In that game, B&J Apple Market beat Hancock Realty 14-9.

Tournaments begin Friday for softball teams.
