The Fourth Street improvement project, which started last fall, now is complete. And it certainly makes a tremendous difference in the appearance of our community.

Gone are the weeds growing up through the sidewalks although some folks believe it’s likely that problem could pop up again. Gone are the uneven curbs. Gone are the utilitarian light posts, which were better-suited to an interchange along an interstate highway than Tonganoxie’s downtown.

Through our project, our downtown now is a cohesive unit. The brick inlays tie one part of it to another. It now seems a friendlier, more inviting place to walk and to drive. The entire downtown sparkles in a way it didn’t before the project.

This weekend’s Tonganoxie Days will provide the perfect backdrop for our community to show off our downtown project.

We should take pride in our downtown.
