Activities for teen slacking in our city

By Staff | May 31, 2000

During the past couple of weeks, an interesting debate has been staged on The Mirror’s Web site.

People posting messages on the newspaper’s electronic bulletin board have been discussing the dearth of activities for teen-agers in Tonganoxie. Some people have suggested that the city needs a teen center. Others have said that perhaps the city needs to offer more youth-oriented activities, say concerts in the park or dances at the fairgrounds.

One young person said just about the only activity for teens during the summer is the swimming pool. Obviously, summer sports are a great way for youths to channel some energy.

But, obviously, it’s true that our young people have little to do once school is out of session.

We need to listen to the opinions of the young and the not-so-young on this topic. And then we need to act. It’s important for all of us.
