Appeal process rules tighten

By Lisa Stevens John - | Sep 6, 2000

Citizens planning to appeal property valuations to the Board of Tax Appeals, should make sure that all the blanks are filled in and that deadlines are followed.

Donna Graf, Leavenworth Count Appraiser, said the rules have always been stringent. But after Oct. 1, they’ll be more rigid.

“Beginning October 1, incomplete applications won’t even be accepted for filing,” Graf said. “They’ll just be returned as not completed and not accepted.”

Graf, who says the appeals process is important, says following the directions is important, too.

“If they dismiss your appeal application because you didn’t get it there in a timely manner, they’re not going to let you go back,” she said.

In the past, incomplete applications were sent back to the applicant for completion.

But now the forms must be completed in full and returned by the deadline.

“It will be very easy to be tripped up,” Graf said. “All we’re trying to do is hopefully keep someone from having their application be dismissed.”
