Pressure defense and strong rebounding helped the team beat Patton, 47-15. Leading rebounders were Maggie Gratny, Amanda Lenon and Kelly Stauch with seven each.

Stauch, Katie Hileman and Victoria King were the leaders in steals. Stauch also dished out a career-high seven assists. Scoring for the Warriors were: Gratny, 18 points, Lenon, 12; Hileman, 6; King, 4; Sarah Hartshorn, Paige Robinson and Stauch, with 2 each.

The Chieftains also defeated Perry with strong defense. Hileman and Stauch led the team with six steals each. Gratny also had eight rebounds.

Scoring for the Chieftains were: Lenon, 16; Hileman, 3; and Stauch, 2.

“We played good aggressive defense for the week,” TJHS coach John Korb said. “Gratny has really been a force on the boards for us. Stauch is really starting to find the open person on the fast break.

“But, we need to continue to move our feet and box out on rebounds. We are coming into the hardest part of our schedule the next three games.”

The team’s upcoming games are against Lansing, Piper and Eudora.

TJHS 7th grade nabs wins

The Tonganoxie Junior High School seventh-grade team went into Thanksgiving vacation with three victories.

On Nov. 19, TJHS defeated Patton 41-8 with balanced scoring highlighted by Ali Pistora with 11 points and Rachel Bogard with 10, while Sarah Kotowske, Rebecca Bogard and Amie Riddle were strong rebounders.

The next day, both A and B teams claimed victories at Perry-Lecompton. The B-team won 24-18, as did the A-team, 42-13. Tara Lloyd led the B-team squad in scoring with eight points, while Ali Pistora was leading scorer for the A-team with 10 points. Rachel and Rebecca Bogard combined for seven assists and had eight and six points respectively.

The teams will play Thursday against Piper in the TJHS gymnasium.
