Obituary: Verna Kay Brown
Services for Verna Kay Brown, 44, Lawrence, were Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at the Lenexa Christian Center in Lenexa. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Tonganoxie.
Mrs. Brown died Dec. 2, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 10, 1958, in Earle, Ark., the daughter of Jesse Lee and Dorothy Mae (Harris) Bolden. She attended Tonganoxie public schools and graduated from high school in 1976. She attended Topeka Technical College for one year and received her certification for medical assistant in 1993.
Mrs. Brown was employed at Lawrence Career College as a medical assistant instructor and helped with job placement.
She was an active member of Lenexa Christian Center, where she sang in the choir, was an assistant home group leader, a greeter, a prayer warrior, a mentor and worked with the children’s ministry. Mrs. Brown also was an ordained deaconess at Pentecostal Bible Church.
She married Theron Wayne Brown on Sept. 3, 1977, in Lawrence. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Tremayne, Twynnin and Tyron Brown, all of Lawrence; two daughters, Tevaune Brown and Amy Kennedy, both of Lawrence; her father, Jesse Bolden, Maywood, Ill.; four brothers, Danny, Lorenzo, Michael and Kenneth Bolden, all of Lawrence; two sisters, Glenda Bolden, Omaha, Neb., and Zernell Bolden, Lawrence; three half-sisters, Keisha, Antoinette and Gloria Bolden, all of Maywood, Ill.; two grandsons; and a granddaughter. Her mother and a half-sister, Yolanda Bolden, died earlier.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Verna Kay Brown Scholarship Fund for the children, which may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th, Lawrence, 66044-3402.
