Obituary/Joyce Berman

A memorial service for Joyce Berman, 71, Tonganoxie, will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Unity Church of Lawrence.

Mrs. Berman died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. She was born Jan. 3, 1931, in Emporia, the daughter of Martin and Inez (Putnam) Hoffman.

She graduated from Emporia State Teachers College and Central Missouri State University and she taught in Strong City, Kansas City, Kan., and the Piper school district. She taught art and special education and was a school counselor.

After she retired, she continued to pursue her passion for art, attending classes at KU and the Lawrence Arts Center.

Mrs. Berman was a member of Unity Church of Lawrence, a former member of the church board and a member of Earth Peace. She also was a member of Wolf Women.

Survivors include her husband, Raoul; a daughter, Michelle Manners, Dallas; two sons, Bill Manners, Santa Rosa, Calif., and Phil Manners, Lawrence; a brother, Dale Hoffman, Kansas City, Kan.; and five grandchildren.
