Andrea Korb and Bryan Gurss were named outstanding athletes of the year by Tonganoxie High School coaches and counselors.

Korb played volleyball and basketball all four of her high school years. She also competed in track her freshman and sophomore seasons and softball her junior and senior seasons. All-Kaw Valley League and all-area selections in volleyball and basketball, Korb will continue to play basketball at Carleton College, an NCAA Division III program in Minnesota.

Gurss, an all-KVL and all-area selection in basketball, also competed in cross country and was on Tonganoxie’s first golf team in the spring.

A Lawrence Journal-World Academic All-Star team member this year, Gurss will attend the University of Kansas in the fall and pursue a degree in engineering.

Awards for most inspirational athletes were also announced. Letterman’s club members voted on the most inspirational awards.

On the girls’ side, Erin Seymour won the honor, while Matt Alexander was the boys’ recipient.

Seymour was a three-sport athlete, competing in cross country, basketball and track. The senior made a state track appearance in Wichita last month in the 3,200. Seymour plans to attend Johnson County Community College.

Alexander rounds out the honorees. The senior played football, basketball and baseball during his four years at Tonganoxie. Alexander will play football and baseball at Fort Scott Community College.
