McLouth qualifies 12 for 2A state track meet

McLouth qualified eight girls and four boys for the state track meet Friday and Saturday in Wichita.

The girls 4×400 relay team took second at a 2A regional last Friday in Onaga. Team members are Courtney Edmonds, Christy Gunther, Kourtney Smith and Alayna Stewart.

Edmonds won regionals in the 1,600 and 800. She’s the defending state champion in the 800.

Smith also took third in the long jump, while the 4×800 team of Katie Booth, Tina Edgell, Neva Gardner and Erin Watson placed fourth in Onaga.

On the boys side, the 4×800 relay took second and had the second best overall time going into state. Clayton Garrow, Brant Watson, Matt Scarlet and Mark Smelser’s time of 8:37 set a new school record.

Smelser also took third in the 1,600 and fourth in the 3,200. Garrow placed fourth in the 800.
