Convenience store work to start soon
Plans are progressing for a convenience store along U.S. Highway 24-40 on Tonganoxie’s east side.
“We’re moving forward,” said developer Steve Kelly. “Architects are drawing up plans. I’m pleased, I’m happy. If weather doesn’t foul us up, we ought to be breaking ground out there before too much longer.”
Kelly, who owns 29 acres on the north side of the highway between the Leavenworth County Annex and Stone Creek Subdivision, said he’s eager to begin construction on the 4,200-square-foot building.
Kelly plans Shell gasoline sales, along with the convenience store.
In addition, he’s hopeful he can find another business, such as a fast-food taco restaurant, to move into the building.
“I’m still looking,” he said.
Kelly said he’d like to break ground before the first of the year weather permitting. Once that happens, construction will take about 120 days, Kelly said.
