With only one candidate for two open seats on the city council and no candidates for any of the five seats on the Tonganoxie school board, it’s time for civic-minded citizens to step forward and toss their hats in the ring.

Meanwhile two local men, including incumbent Mayor John Franiuk, say they’re interested in the mayoral race. But neither has decided.

The filing deadline for offices is Jan. 21. The general election will be held April 1.

So if you’re interested, talk with members of these boards to determine what’s involved in serving. And if you know someone who would make a good school board or city council member, encourage them to run.
