Obituary: John F. “Jack” Himpel Sr.
Services for John F. (Jack) Himpel Sr., 80, Tonganoxie, were Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Tonganoxie United Methodist Church. Burial was in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.
Mr. Himpel died Friday, May 23, 2003, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. He was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Tonganoxie, the son of Arthur and Cecile (Crady) Himpel.
He was a member of the Tonganoxie United Methodist Church and was an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. He had served on the Tonganoxie City Council, the Tonganoxie Fire Department, where he served as chief, and the Unified School District 464 school board.
Mr. Himpel was a carpenter and building contractor.
On April 26, 1947, he married Margie Coburn.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, Jack Himpel Jr., Tonganoxie, A.W. “Rocky” Himpel, Oskaloosa, Mark Himpel, Tonganoxie, and Jeff Himpel, Basehor; five daughters, Georgina Bellman, Winslow, Ariz., and Beverly Wiles, Susan Herrstrom, Diane Bretthauer and Bobbi McClel-lan, all of Tonganoxie; three brothers, Arthur “Bo” Himpel, Tonganoxie, Donald Himpel, Tonganoxie, and Billy Himpel, Lenexa; 21 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
