McLouth boys improve to 1-1 with win against Maranatha
The Bulldogs are in the win column.
McLouth evened its boys basketball record to 1-1 with a 48-41 victory Friday against Maranatha (Shawnee) in McLouth.
The Bulldogs had a big second quarter, outscoring Maranatha, 13-3 as McLouth went into halftime with a 22-13 lead. The Bulldogs led by as many as 15 in the third quarter before holding on for the win.
Trevor Keling led the Bulldogs in scoring with 16, while Jimmy Steffey dropped in 10 for McLouth.
McLouth also played last week against Jefferson County North in a play-in game for the Delaware Valley League Tournament. JCN proved to be too much for MHS as the Bulldogs lost, 55-32.
The Bulldogs played again Tuesday against Wathena in the consolation bracket of the DVL Tournament. MHS will finish out the tournament with a 2:30 p.m. game Friday in Atchison against Horton. The tournament is being played at Benedictine College.

MHS girls fall to JCN, Maranatha Academy
The McLouth High girls basketball team came oh so close to giving Keith Miller his first win as the Bulldogs’ head coach.
McLouth posted a 19-13 halftime lead against Maranatha on Friday at home, but the Bulldogs couldn’t hold on in the second half. Maranatha controlled the third quarter with a 13-6 advantage. Each team scored nine points in the fourth quarter as Maranatha escaped with a 35-34 win.
The loss dropped McLouth to 0-2 on the season. The Bulldogs also lost a Delaware Valley League Tournament play-in game to Oskaloosa, 53-34, last week in Oskaloosa.
The Bulldogs played Monday against Jackson Heights and will play at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Atchison on the Benedictine College campus as they complete their portion of the DVL Tournament.
Although the Bulldogs cannot compete for the tournament title after losing to Oskaloosa, the Bulldogs could finish the tournament with a 2-1 record.
