Obituary: Zella “Zee” Hayward Rough
Services for Zella “Zee” Hayward Rough, 92, McLouth, were Friday, June 3, 2005, at McLouth United Methodist Church. Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Kan.
Mrs. Rough died May 31, 2005, at Tonganoxie Nursing Center. She was born Nov. 14, 1912, in Onaga, the daughter of Noyce Hayden and Sarah Elizabeth Hayward.
She graduated from Onaga High School and attended Baker University in Baldwin. She received her teaching degree from Emporia State Teacher’s College and her master of elementary administration degree from New York City Teacher’s College.
She lived in Kansas City, Kan., from 1943 to 1988, when she moved to McLouth.
Mrs. Rough started teaching in 1932. She was an elementary principal and school teacher for 21 years in Unified School District 500 in Kansas City, Kan.
She was a member of McLouth United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, McLouth Senior Citizens and the National Education Assn.
She married Lee Grahm Henry on April 26, 1939, in Tonganoxie. He died March 3, 1943. She married Cecil Wilburn Rough on Dec. 17, 1953, in Kansas City, Kan. He died March 4, 1963.
