Hayden enters Saturday’s game with 24-game winning streak

By Shawn Linenberger - | Nov 2, 2005

Tonganoxie played Hayden the closest of any HHS playoff opponent during last year’s Class 4A state football playoffs.

Hayden won, 27-14, and then went on to win its first state title since 1998 with a 31-13 victory against Rose Hill in the state championship game.

The Chieftains will have another shot at the team that many people look to win back-to-back titles. The Wildcats have won 24 straight games.

Hayden, which plays in Centennial League, a conference stacked with 5A and 6A schools, rolled through the regular season mostly against Topeka teams. The Wildcats closest games came against Washburn Rural (17-0) and Seaman (21-7).

Tonganoxie, meanwhile, has won nine straight games after losing its season opener to Lansing, a team the Chieftains led, 10-0, midway through the fourth quarter.

Here is a look at game-by-game results for both teams, which meet at 7 p.m. Saturday in regional play at Beatty Field in Tonganoxie.
