Newspaper, music students team up again for fund-raiser
It’s that time of year again.
For a seventh consecutive year, The Mirror newspaper is working with Tonganoxie music students to help the young musicians raise money for upcoming trips.
Since 2000, The Mirror has donated a portion of subscriptions sold to band and choir students. The fund-raiser kicks off next Wednesday and runs through March 15.
The project helps vocal and instrumental music students at both the junior high and high school.
“The music students in Tonganoxie work extremely hard, year in and year out,” said Caroline Trowbridge, editor and publisher of The Mirror. “We’re happy to help these talented youths again. They and their two great directors — Mr. Van and Joyce Steeby — deserve our support.”
The Mirror will donate to students $10 from each new subscription that students sell and $5 for each renewal they sell.
A 52-week subscription to The Mirror costs $30 plus tax in Leavenworth, Jefferson, Douglas, Wyandotte and Johnson counties; $45 a year, plus tax, elsewhere in Kansas; and $50 a year outside of Kansas.
Trowbridge said she’s pleased to again offer this fund-raising opportunity to the community’s young musicians.
“This is something of a personal thing for me,” she said. “I was in both band and choir in junior high and high school, and those were among the best experiences of my school days.”
