In the girls tournament, Tonganoxie can wrap up a No. 1 seed in Class 4A by finishing the regular season without a loss.

Tonganoxie (17-1) played Tuesday at home against Perry-Lecompton and will travel Friday to Basehor-Linwood.

Sumner, at 17-2, likely will be the No. 2 seed.

First-round games will be played Monday at the higher seeded teams’ gymnasiums.

Piper, at 4-14, is the projected No. 8 seed and should play at Tonganoxie. No. 7 Bishop Ward, at 8-11, should play at Sumner. Bonner Springs currently has the No. 5 slot at 10-8, while Basehor-Linwood is No. 6 at 9-9.

That means Bonner Springs likely would play at No. 3 Eudora, which is 13-4, in the first round.

That leaves No. 5 Bonner Springs traveling to No. 4 De Soto, which sports an 11-8 record.

In the boys bracket, Sumner is the projected No. 1 seed at 15-4, but Piper also has four losses at 14-4. If both teams win the rest of their regular-season games, a coin flip could decide who is the top seed.

If Sumner retains the top spot, they would host No. 8 Tonganoxie on Tuesday in Kansas City, Kan. The Chieftains are 0-18 on the year.

No. 2 Piper would play No. 7 Basehor-Linwood (6-12), while Eudora, at 13-5, is projected as the No. 3 seed and would play No. 6 Bishop Ward (9-9).

That leaves Bonner Springs as the No. 4 seed at 12-6 and De Soto as the No. 5 seed at 11-8.

Semifinals and championship rounds will be played March 2, 3 and 4 at Sumner.

Girls semifinals will be March 2, while the boys semifinals will be March 3. Championship games will be March 4.

Class 3A Oskaloosa substate

The McLouth boys and girls basketball teams likely will be on the road for first-round Class 3A substate basketball action.

The boys, at 5-13, should be a No. 6 seed and likely would play at No. 3 Wellsville, which is 12-6, in the first round.

The girls also should be a No. 6 seed at 3-15. They’ll probably play at No. 3 Oskaloosa in the first round. The Bears are 11-8.

The semifinal and championship rounds will be played at Oskaloosa.
