Obituary: Leona Christina Rose
Services for Leona Christina Rose, 92, Manhattan, were Monday, July 3, 2006, at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego. Rev. Jol Klein officiated. Burial was at Louisville Cemetery.
Mrs. Rose died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. She was a long-time resident of the community.
She was born on Sept. 2, 1913, in rural Marshall County near Vermillion. She was the daughter of Julius and Sadie Fairchild Kenworthy. Mrs. Rose was a homemaker but also worked with the Sharing Place in Louisville. She had also been a cook for the school district in Leavenworth County. She was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church.
She married Albert Rose Sept. 9, 1931, in Manhattan. He preceded her in death in 1983. Also preceding her in death were a son, Jackie Rose in 1993; and three grandchildren, Kathy Murdock in 2002, Chris Rose in 1966, and an infant granddaughter.
Survivors include three daughters, Darlene Carbaugh, Basehor, Jean Lorenzo, Bossier City, La., and Joann Zoeller, Junction City; five sons, Delbert Rose, Humboldt, Neb., Jimmy Rose, Havensville, Donald Rose, Louisville, Richard Rose, Lawrence, and David Rose, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; two sisters, Eldora McGrath, St. Mary’s, and Alma Modine, Topeka; 37 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice and those may be sent in care of the Campanella-Evans Mortuary, 612 E. Highway 24, Wamego, 66547.
