Chieftain football suffers first loss
Atchison held a slim 7-6 lead at halftime Friday against Tonganoxie at Amelia Earhart Stadium, but AHS scored twice in the second half and shut down the Chieftain offense for a 21-6 district win in Atchison.
Atchison improved to 8-0, while Tonganoxie’s quest for an undefeated regular season ended.
If Tonganoxie wins Thursday in the regular season finale against Jeff West, the Chieftains likely will advance to the state playoffs. If they advance to the playoffs, the Chieftains would travel Oct. 31 to Clay Center or Holton. The two teams are undefeated in district play and will meet each other Thursday for the district title. The winner of that game likely would host Tonganoxie in the first round of the playoffs, while the loser likely would travel to Atchison.
