Obituary: William S. “Bill” Fannin
Services for William S. “Bill” Fannin Jr., 77, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
Mr. Fannin died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Hickory Pointe Care Center in Oskaloosa. Burial will be in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.
Mr. Fannin was born Sept. 23, 1929, in Topeka, the son of William S. Sr. and Ruth Louise (Williams) Fannin.
He had been an area resident since 1950. He worked as a logger, truck driver and farmer. He formerly owned and operated Fannin Sawmill.
Mr. Fannin served on the Sarcoxie Fire District No. 4 as a truck captain from 1980 to 2001 and was instrumental in starting the fire department in 1985. He was a member of the Jefferson County Firefighters Association, National Rifle Association and Lawrence Parkinson’s Support Group. He was a member of McLouth Church of the Nazarene.
He married Dorothy J. Mooney on Dec. 7, 1950, in Topeka. She survives, of the home in Oskaloosa.
Other survivors include a daughter, Donna E. Fannin, Oskaloosa; a son, Steven E. Fannin, Tonganoxie; a foster son, Dan Affalter, Lawrence; a sister, Dixie L. Rees, Grantville; two grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Jefferson County Firefighters Associat-ion, designated for training; Hickory Pointe Care Center Resident Fund; McLouth Church of the Nazarene food pantry; or Lawrence Humane Society. Memorials may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence 66044.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Jan. 10, 2007, at the mortuary.
