Obituary: Robert “Bob” Mangelsdorf

Services for Robert “Bob” Dean Mangelsdorf, 54, Tonganoxie, were Saturday, May 26, at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kan. Interment was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Mangelsdorf died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at his home.

He was born June 28, 1952, in Atchison, the son of Alfred Mangelsdorf Jr. and Velma Mangelsdorf. He worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 30 years and had been supervisor of the year for the state of Kansas.

He was a member of First Christian Church, Atchison, and the Tonganoxie Veterans of Foreign Wars organization.

Mr. Mangelsdorf served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He loved stock car racing and the outdoors, as well as spending time doing yardwork.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Diane Bettis Mangelsdorf, of the home; his parents, Al and Velma Mangelsdorf, Atchison; two daughters, Kristina Melton, Weston, Mo., and Ashley Mangelsdorf, Tonganoxie; a son, Robert Dean “Sonny” Jr.; two brothers, Rick, Lawrence, and Bill, Woodbridge, Va.; two sisters, Susan Sutter, Silver Spring, Md., and Debra Kane, Atchison; and three grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Sonny Mangelsdorf Trust Fund, sent in care of First State Bank and Trust, Tonganoxie.

Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS 66112, handled arrangements.
