KVL Football Report: Week Nine
Six Kaw Valley League football teams are headed to the playoffs in their respective classifications.
Lansing High and Bonner Springs moved on to the Class 5A playoffs after wrapping up district championships Friday night. Lansing routed KC-Schlagle, 41-14, and Bonner Springs rolled past Turner, 54-35. Meanwhile, Mill Valley was bounced from the playoff picture despite going 2-1 in districts because Bishop Miege upset St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday. The Jaguars end the season with a 6-3 record.
Three KVL teams will play in the 4A playoffs. Bishop Ward advanced after cruising past St. James Academy on Friday, and Perry-Lecompton secured its district title with an easy victory over Atchison. Meanwhile, the surprise team was Basehor-Linwood, which won its district with a 2-1 record despite falling to Piper, 34-14, on Friday. Basehor faces a stiff opener against 8-1 Eudora, ranked No. 12 in the latest Metro Sports Super 25 poll.
Immaculata also is in the playoffs. They’ll compete in Class 2A action after posting a 2-1 record in their district.
