Watershed protection subject of meeting

By Staff Reports - | Jan 9, 2008

The Lower Kansas River Basin Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) will be the focus of a meeting scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the 4-H building at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds in Tonganoxie.

This meeting is the third in a series on WRAPS. Topics will move further into the issues and challenges facing the Lower Kansas River Watershed, as well as discussions on funding for the program as it moves forward, according to a news release from the Leavenworth County Conservation District.

A major contributor to the Lower Kansas out of Leavenworth County is Stranger Creek and its tributaries. Landowners along Stranger and all interested parties are encouraged to attend the meeting and bring their concerns for water quality and soil loss.

The Leavenworth County Conservation District is co-host for this meeting, along with the Kansas Water Institute and the Kansas Alliance for Wetlands and Streams.
