Obituary: Franklin Doyle VanDyke

Services for Franklin Doyle VanDyke, 72, Kansas City, Kan., were Saturday, Jan. 26, at Tonganoxie Christian Church. Burial was in Hubbel Hill Cemetery in Tonganoxie.

Mr. VanDyke died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at his home.

He was born Feb. 7, 1935, in Goodland, the son of John and Lida Harless VanDyke. He was a former resident of Tonganoxie.

Mr. VanDyke was a longtime member of Tonganoxie Christian Church. He retired from Hallmark Cards in Leavenworth in February 1996. He worked for the Tonganoxie school district and was a deputy with the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office. He volunteered as a leader with the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Tonganoxie Volunteer Fire Department.

He and his wife were members of the Good Sam’s Tiblow Camping Club for many years and enjoyed camping and traveling in their motor home.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Norma L. VanDyke, of the home; son John R. “Rick.”, Sugar Land, Texas; a son, David W., Olathe; two daughters, Beverly J. VanDyke, Kansas City, Kan., and Brendia L. Falk, Meadows Place, Texas; two sisters, Jeannette Sparks, McLouth, and Faye Young, Sun City Center, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Mr. VanDyke was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Jr.
