The public is invited to spend an evening with the Harvey Girls starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 27 for an event benefiting the National Fred Harvey Museum.

Kicking off with a social at the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum, 320 S. Esplanade in Leavenworth, a buffet dinner will follow at 7 p.m. in the tradition of Fred Harvey.

The evening also will include a short program, carousel ride, model train display and silent auction.

Fred Harvey, working with the AT&SF Railway, established restaurants along the main line west from Chicago to California. The first restaurant was in Topeka. Waitresses, dressed in their traditional black and white uniforms, were called Harvey Girls.

While establishing his restaurant empire, Harvey and his family lived in Leavenworth. The National Fred Harvey Museum, 624 Olive St. in Leavenworth, originally was his home.
