Tonganoxie escapes storm’s fury

By Staff | Apr 2, 2010

Tonganoxie appeared to escape the worst of the thunderstorm that rolled through northeast Kansas this morning.

The city saw heavy rain, lightening and light hail for about 30 minutes starting shortly after 9 a.m. No reports of damage or power outages were reported to the Tonganoxie Police Department.

The storm struck with much more force along the Kansas Highway 7 corridor. The Kansas Department of Transportation reported a semi-truck was overturned in the southbound lane of K-7 at the K-10 interchange. Traffic lights near K-7 and Interstate 70 were not working and there were reports of power outages in the area.

Drivers were advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes if possible.
