Report: Petraeus named as top commander in Afghanistan
The Washington Post is reporting that President Obama has relieved Gen. Stanley McChrystal of his duties as the top U.S. military commander in Afghanistan, after McChrystal was quoted criticizing top White House officials in a Rolling Stone article, according to a White House official.
The Post said Obama would name Gen. David Petraeus to succeed McChrystal as top war commander in Afghanistan.
Petraeus was commander of Fort Leavenworth and the Combined Arms Center from 2005 to 2007, when he left to take charge of U.S. and NATO forces in Iraq.
