Jeannin, Lindsay are state champs

Tonganoxie High senior Andie Jeannin gives one final push in the 800-meter run to surpass El Dorado's Molly Milbourn and win a Class 4A state championship by four hundredths of a second Saturday evening at Cessna Stadium.
Wichita ? Neither Andie Jeannin nor DJ Lindsay could stand upright after completing their specialty events at the state track meet Saturday at Cessna Stadium.
Jeannin took refuge in the shade of an announcing tower and Lindsay just looked for the closest available trash can after each won a Class 4A state championship.
It nearly drained each Tonganoxie High senior athlete but Jeannin won the 800-meter run in 2:18.58 (a new personal record) and Lindsay took first place — and set a 4A state meet record — in the 400-meter dash with a jaw-dropping, 47.98 performance.
After giving his all to win a state title, Lindsay followed it up with a fourth-place medal in the 200-meter dash and another impressive anchor leg for the boys 4×400 relay race. Lindsay, Bret Koch, Jake Willis (who was a late replacement for Tyler Woolworth, who had abdominal spasms Friday night which required a trip to the hospital) and Jeremy Carlisle finished third in the marquee event — ending the Chieftains’ weekend at state with eight medals between the boys and girls — a year after THS won a state title in the 4×400.
Freshman Jenny Whitledge won Tonganoxie’s fourth state medal of the weekend Saturday morning in the high jump. Whitledge topped out at 5 feet, 4 inches, which was good enough to tie her for second place in 4A.
