Fort Leavenworth issues statement about operations after news of Bin Laden’s death
Fort Leavenworth issued a statement Monday about its operations the day following news of Osama Bin Laden’s death at the hands of U.S. forces.
The fort also said it could not accommodate media interview requests with personnel because of the volume of requests, Rebecca Steed with media relations said Monday.
Here is the statement:
“We are taking precautionary measures as directed by the Office of Secretary of Defense in light of the current situation. Although no immediate threat has been identified, the decision to heighten our Force Protection Measures is prudent. We thank you all for your patience and understanding as we ensure the safety of our troops, families, and civilians who live and work in this community. Our fighting forces are the best in the world. It is great to see Americans supporting those who serve, acknowledging their willingness to stand in harm’s way in the name of freedom.”
