Warriors sweep LTMS in football
Tonganoxie Middle School’s seventh-grade football team was in the midst of a high-scoring affair Tuesday when its defense desperately needed one stop for a win and got it.
The Warriors beat Lexington Trails in double overtime, 38-36, when their defense stymied an LTMS two-point conversion attempt, ending the game.
Of course, the TMS offense had to score and convert its two-point conversion on its series to get to that point. Jordan Brown rushed for the home team’s final touchdown in double overtime and then ran in a two-point conversion for what proved to be the winning points.
It was a fitting end to the game for Tonganoxie (3-3), considering Brown accounted for all five of the team’s touchdowns, including one on a kickoff return and another on a pass to Brett George.
Brown finished with a pair of two-point conversions, while George and Lane Hecht had one apiece.
The TMS eighth-grade football team also beat Lexington Trails at home, but its game wasn’t nearly as dramatic.
The Warriors didn’t have much trouble in a 34-6 victory.
TMS (4-2) got the bulk of its scoring from Austin Ettinger, who ran for three touchdowns and scored a defensive TD after recovering an LTMS fumble.
Ryan Musick also scored a rushing touchdown for Tonganoxie. Luke Aitkens had a two-point conversion for the Warriors and Grant Elston passed to Dawson Jones for another successful conversion.
