By Justin Nutter - | Feb 22, 2012

Basketball teams across Kansas know the paths they’ll have to take to state, as the Kansas State High School Activities Association has released its 2012 sub-state brackets.

The Tonganoxie High girls, part of the Bonner Springs field, are 13-6 and earned a No. 2 seed in the eight-team bracket. The Chieftains will host seventh-seeded Jeff West (6-14) in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The THS boys (9-10) are fourth in their bracket and will also face Jeff West (7-13) Tuesday at home. Action will begin immediately following the girls game.

The winners of each quarterfinal game will advance to the semifinals at Bonner Springs. The girls semis are set for Thursday and the boys game will be Friday. The sub-state champion will get a slot in the Class 4A state tournament, set for March 7-10 in Salina.

In Class 3A action, the McLouth girls and boys will each hit the road Tuesday for quarterfinal action at Riley County. The MHS girls (3-16) are the No. 8 seed in the St. Marys bracket and will face No. 1 RCHS (19-0) at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs boys (9-10) earned a fifth seed and will face off against the fourth-seeded Falcons (12-7) following the conclusion of the girls game.

The semifinals will be Thursday (girls) and Friday (boys) at St. Marys. Sub-state title winners will advance to the Class 3A state tournament, which will take place March 7-10 in Hutchinson.

Tonganoxie and McLouth will each wrap up their regular season schedules on Friday. The Chieftains will head to Turner, while the Bulldogs will pay a visit to Valley Falls.
