McLouth Happenings

By Beverly Muzzy - | May 1, 2012

The Jefferson County Historical Society will host an art walk for all Jefferson County High School art students, promoting their art talents, on Saturday, May 5, and Sunday, May 6. It will take place in the John Steuart Curry Boyhood Home and Museum from 1-4 p.m. on the grounds of Old Jefferson Town in Oskaloosa. Featured will be the students’ photography (black and white, color and digital imaging), drawings; acrylics, oils and watercolors; ceramics; sculpture; jewelry and mixed media. Each area high school art department has been invited to participate and exhibit the works of their students.

The Historical Society wants to recognize the quality work in the fine arts of our area students by establishing a county art show, to be scheduled annually, during opening weekend, which is the first weekend of May.

The annual McLouth rural school reunion will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 6, in the McLouth Community Center.  The community center is located on Union Street behind the library. Please use the rear entrance. Everyone who attended a one-room schoolhouse is encouraged to attend and reminisce. Your families are welcome. Display your photos and scrapbooks and share your memories. Please bring a covered dish to share, and table service for your family. Coffee and iced tea will be furnished. Further info: Bob and Alfreda Ryan, (913) 796-6525.

American Legion Post No. 41 will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in the 4-H Building on the Fairgrounds in Tonganoxie, followed by the monthly American Legion Riders meeting. Please note: the Legion Riders meeting has been rescheduled this month due to Mother’s Day.
