Drew Cerny had two top-five finishes Thursday at the Delaware Valley League track and field meet.
The McLouth High track and field team wrapped up its regular season last Thursday, and it did so right where it started the year: on its home turf.
The Bulldogs took on their 13 Delaware Valley League opponents at the annual league meet. The girls took sixth in the team standings with a score of 32, while the boys racked up 66 points to finish fourth.
This year’s meet was technically hosted by Kansas City Christian, but took place at the Stan Braksick Sports Complex.
Freshman Summer Cerny brought home MHS’ only individual medals on the girls side, finishing third in the 100-meter hurdles (17.74) and 300-meter hurdles (51.52). The Bulldog girls also took third in the 4×100-meter relay, finishing with a time of 53.99.
In boys competition, junior Dakota Cop led the way with a top finish in the triple jump. Cop claimed gold in the event with a jump of 41-8. He also placed in the 100-meter dash, finishing fourth with a time of 11.86.
Seniors Marc Walbridge and Hunter Koch each brought home silver medals. Walbridge took second in the 1,600-meter run (4:45.99) and Koch took second in 110-meter hurdles (16.42). Koch also finished third in the 300-meter hurdles (42.99) to round out the Bulldogs’ list of individual medalists.
MHS enjoyed some success in relay competition, as three teams earned top-three finishes. The 4×800-meter team took second with a time of 9:21.46, while the 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter teams each took third with marks of 45.44 and 3:38.71, respectively.
Select Bulldog athletes will be back in action Friday at the Class 3A regional meet in Sabetha. Competition will begin with field events at 3 p.m.
