Farm tour this weekend

The eighth annual Kaw Valley Farm Tour is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and once again there will be a Tonganoxie farm featured.

Screamin’ Oaks, 18171 198th St., Tonganoxie, will be one of the farms on the tour.

Farm animals, poultry and reptiles will be featured. Visitors can participate in many children’s games and crafts, spinning wool demonstrations and buy finished wool products. Some products at the farm will be goat milk, cheese, soaps, ice cream, lotions and more.

Holy-Field Vineyard & Winery, 18807 158th St., Basehor, also will be featured.

The 16-acre vineyard has walking tours and a wine-tasting room.

The tour began in 2005 to celebrate the diversity and availability of locally grown food and products in northeast Kansas.

Special activities include petting animals, hay rides, walking tours, chef demonstrations and opportunities to sample and purchase farm-fresh foods.

In addition to several specialty crop farms and livestock producers, five new farms have been added as tour stops this year. The cost is $10 per vehicle to all the farms for the weekend.
