OHS wrestlers fourth in Onaga
The Oskaloosa High wrestling team continued its season Saturday with a fourth-place showing at the Onaga Invitational. The Bears finished with 64.5 team points, finishing behind Silver Lake (158), Onaga (106.5) and Doniphan West (104.5) and just ahead of Lincoln (64).
Eli Coulter (132 pounds) and Jake Copeland (285) were the only McLouth High wrestlers to compete with the Bears in tournament action. Copeland went 2-3 and took fourth in his weight class, while Coulter went winless in four matches.
Dusty Bammes (138) won Oskaloosa’s only individual title, going 3-0 with two pins and a decision. He is now 8-0 on the season. Lance Hickman (170) reached the finals, but fell to Highland’s Trevor Fee in the championship match.
Mark Nickels (120) and Griffin Matey (145) both lost in the second round, but won out to finish third in their respective brackets. Ben Harvey (160) rounded out the Bears’ day with a seventh-place finish, as OHS was open at six weight classes.
Oskaloosa will be back on the mat Saturday at the Randy Starcher Memorial Invitational in Tonganoxie. The Bears took seventh at last year’s tournament.
