Raheem Keron Armstead, 29, made the plea in Leavenworth County District Court. It stemmed from an incident that occurred Dec. 29 when Armstead was being held in the Leavenworth County Jail after pleading guilty and being sentenced to 34 months in Kansas Department of Corrections custody for methamphetamine possession.

About 12:50 p.m. Dec. 29, a corrections officer escorted a small group of trustees out of the Leavenworth County Justice Center to dispose of trash in the outdoor receptacle, according to Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson. Armstead, one of the trustees, fled the jail. On Dec. 31, 2012, the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Department was able to apprehend him.

Armstead is to be sentenced Feb. 22.
