Bulldog softball sweeps Riverside in finale
The McLouth High softball team wrapped up its regular season schedule Monday with a two-game sweep of Riverside in Wathena. Playing as the home team, the Bulldogs won by scores of 10-9 and 11-1.
MHS (14-4) jumped out to a 7-2 run after four innings in the first game, but the Cyclones got within one with a four-run fifth. The Bulldogs answered with three more runs in the sixth, and an RHS rally came up one run short in the seventh.
Shannon Greene got the win in the pitcher’s circle, striking out 10 hitters in seven innings. Konner Patterson, Alex Adams, Amber McCown and Taylor Pope had three hits each in the win.
The Bulldogs put the nightcap away early, jumping out to a 7-0 lead after two innings. Riverside’s only run came on a solo home run in the third, but MHS closed out the game with four unanswered runs. The Cyclones failed to get within single digits in the sixth, so the mercy rule went into effect.
Angela Dailey went the distance in the circle and allowed just four hits. Patterson had another big game at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a homer and six runs batted in.
McLouth will now await its seed in its Class 2A regional tournament, which will be played next week in Valley Falls.
