Several wrecks occurred last week in the Tonganoxie area. Here are updates on those accidents.

Leavenworth man injured in CR 5 crash

A 75-year-old Leavenworth man was taken to an area hospital following a crash Thursday on Leavenworth County Road 5.

Robert C. Rogers was driving a 2005 Mini Cooper west on CR 5 near 4-H Road when he suffered an apparent medical episode. Rogers drove off the north shoulder, vaulted onto a former field access road and went airborne for about 60 feet. When the vehicle landed, it struck a wire fence and a utility pole, according to Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office reports. He was driving less than 45 mph at the time of the wreck, a witness told officers.

Rogers, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken by Leavenworth County Emergency Medical Services to Kansas University Hospital.

Pregnant Tonganoxie woman injured in accident

A Tonganoxie woman, six months pregnant, was injured in a rollover accident early Wednesday, Aug. 28.

Tara D. Mayo, 30, Tonganoxie, was driving just before 12:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 24-40 north of Cantrell Road about 5 miles southwest of Tonganoxie when she swerved to miss a deer.

Mayo, who was heading north on U.S. 24-40, swerved into the southbound lane in her 2007 Pontiac Vibe to avoid hitting the deer. She overcorrected, causing the vehicle to slide sideways, sheriff’s office reports said. As the vehicle entered the ditch, the rear end continued to swing around. The rear of the car eventually hit the ditch, causing it to roll onto its roof.

Mayo was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released Aug. 28, a hospital official there said Tuesday.

Rural McLouth man suffers minor injuries on K-16

A rural McLouth resident was injured in a two-vehicle accident Aug. 27 west of Tonganoxie.

The accident happened about 7:45 a.m. Aug. 27 on Kansas Highway 16 just west of Tonganoxie.

Spencer R. Brown, 28, Nortonville, was driving a 2012 Ford Fusion east on K-16 toward Tonganoxie when Sean F. Ownes II, 21, rural McLouth, fell asleep at the wheel and drifted in front of Brown in a 2001 Hyundai Sonona, sheriff’s reports said. Ownes’ vehicle slammed into the south embankment. Ownes suffered minor injuries and was taken by Leavenworth County Emergency Medical Services to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Motorcyclist injured on U.S. 24-40

A motorcycle-vehicle accident sent a Kansas City, Mo., man to an area hospital Aug. 27.

The accident occurred about 5:30 p.m. at Honeycreek Road and U.S. 24-40 about 1.5 miles south of Tonganoxie.

Ashley Wagner, 28, Leavenworth, was driving a 2007 Kia north on U.S. Highway 24-40 when she stopped in traffic.

Christopher R. Blum, 27, Kansas City, Mo., was on a 2005 Harley Davidson when his motorcycle struck the back of Wagner’s Kia.

Blum was not wearing a helmet, Kansas Highway Patrol reports said.

He was taken to KU Hospital, reports said. An official there said he could neither confirm nor deny Blum was a patient.
