McLouth football falls to Olpe
The McLouth high football team amassed 377 yards of offense in Friday’s visit from Olpe, but the Bulldogs came up just short on the scoreboard in a 35-28 loss to the Eagles.
MHS (2-2) trailed by just a point at halftime, 21-20, but Olpe (2-2) scored once each in the third and fourth quarters. The Bulldogs got a touchdown and a two-point conversion in the final period, but couldn’t get within seven points.
Quarterback Jack Courtney was 14-of-28 passing for 246 yards and two touchdowns — both to Nick McAferty. McAferty enjoyed yet another huge receiving night, hauling in 10 passes for 179 yards to go with his two scores. Running back Drew Cerny had 162 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries.
McLouth will play its first Northeast Kansas League game of the year at 7 p.m. Friday when it travels to Pleasant Ridge near Easton. The Rams are 3-1 this season, including last week’s 44-6 win against Leavenworth-Immaculata. MHS beat Pleasant Ridge last season, 47-20.
