A handful of injury accidents happened last week in southern Leavenworth County, including one in Tonganoxie.

The first one occurred about 1:15 p.m. Thursday about 500 feet east of 222nd Street (County Road 1) on Kansas Highway 32.

Ernest J. Bjorgaard, 61, Leavenworth was driving west on K-32 when his 2001 Ford Ranger left the road to south for unknown reasons. It came to rest in the south ditch. Bjorgaard was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was not wearing a seat belt, Kansas Highway Patrol reports said.

A two-vehicle crash happened after 4:30 p.m. Friday at U.S. Highway 24-40 and Stone Creek Drive in Tonganoxie. Mary E. Akors, Kansas City, Kan., 75, was stopped at the traffic light in a 2004 Dodge 1500 when a 2002 Ford Ranger driven by Alexandra Wilson, 19, Dearborn, Mo., rear-ended Akors’ vehicle. Wilson had fallen asleep, KHP reports said.

Wilson suffered possible injury, while Akors was taken to Kansas University Hospital, reports said. Both were wearing seat belts.

A third accident happened before 9 p.m. Sunday near 139th and Parallel. Steven Ray Lee, 58, Leavenworth, was riding a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle west on Parallel when, for an unknown reason, he lost control of the bike. It came to rest in the north ditch, reports said. Melinda S. Keeney, 51, Shawnee, also was riding the bike. Both were taken to KU Hospital. Both were wearing eye protection, but no helmets, reports said.
