By the end of the night, it was the Lady Bobcats who gave themselves a much-needed boost by defeating Tonganoxie 56-28 in both teams’ final game of 2014.

Tonganoxie (0-4 overall, 0-2 in the Kaw Valley league) didn’t score in the first quarter and had more turnovers that points in the first half as Basehor-Linwood had leads of 12-0 after the first quarter and 28-10 at halftime.

Senior Taylor Lee and junior Sarah Ahart scored quick baskets at the start of the third quarter for Tonganoxie that cut the lead to 14. Ahart lead Tonganoxie with nine points, and senior Tressa Walker added seven.

Basehor-Linwood (1-4 overall, 1-2 in the Kaw Valley League) made eight 3-pointers in the game. Seniors Madison McDowell and Quinnlyn Walcott and junior Nicole Rutherford made 2 3-pointers each. McDowell led the Lady Bobcats with 13 points, and Walcott added nine.

“We made eight 3’s, but we weren’t just bombing them up,” Basehor-Linwood Coach Jason Tatkenhorst said. “They were good shots, off reversals, and we were looking inside, too. We had some nice plays on the inside.”

Basehor-Linwood won’t play again until Jan. 6 at home against Mill Valley. Tonganoxie won’t play again until Jan. 6 at home against Piper. Basehor-Linwood plays the same night at home against Mill Valley.
