Last week’s Kaw Valley League slate caused a shakeup at the top of the girls rankings, while three nail-biting wins by the Basehor-Linwood boys further solidified the boys standings as a two-horse race for first place. Here is a look at the league standings entering Tuesday’s games, as well as what’s on tap this week.

Girls

Basehor-Linwood took down rival Bonner Springs on Friday at home, forcing a tie for second place. The Braves and Bobcats split their regular season series and sport matching 7-2 league records, leaving them two games behind a Piper team still perfect in KVL play. The Pirates still have to play BLHS and BSHS once more each.

Mill Valley, the only other team with a winning record in league play, has won three straight KVL games to improve to 6-3. Like Piper, the Jaguars will still face the Bobcats and Braves one more time.

Boys

Basehor-Linwood went 3-0 last week — two double-overtime wins included — to improve to 8-1 in the league. The Bobcats are just one game behind undefeated Lansing and can force a tie for first when the Lions come to BLHS on Tuesday. LHS handed the Bobcats their only league loss Jan. 17 in Lansing.

The next-closest teams, Mill Valley and Piper, are two games behind the Bobcats, thanks to a BLHS win early last week against the Pirates. Piper won its last two league games to avoid losing any more ground, and Mill Valley went 2-0 in league play last week.

PHS and MVHS both have 6-3 KVL records and, following back-to-back losses last week by Tonganoxie, are the only other two teams with winning league records. They’ll play each other Wednesday.
