Tonganoxie High grad Cody Snyder represented the Chieftains in the 23rd annual Country Mart Kansas vs. Missouri All-Star Game on Thursday in Blue Springs, Mo.

? After helping the Tonganoxie High football team to its best two-year run in recent memory, Cody Snyder got the chance to represent the Chieftains among the state’s best.

The recent THS grad and Butler Community College signee was the starting left tackle for the Kansas team in the 23rd annual Country Mart Kansas vs. Missouri All-Star Game. Kansas led by two touchdowns early, but dropped its fourth straight to Missouri in a 22-21 loss at Blue Springs High School’s Peve Stadium.

“It was nice to show there’s still some talent back at home,” said Snyder, who helped lead the Chieftains to a 14-8 record and two bi-district titles in the last two seasons. “Hopefully, this will be the start of something new so our team back home can start making its way back to the top of the charts again.”

Snyder, an All-Kaw Valley League first-team selection, paved the way for the game’s first score — a two-yard touchdown run by Leavenworth’s Jason Randall on the first play of the second quarter. Following Randall’s score, Baldwin’s Chad Berg hauled in a 24-yard touchdown pass from St. Thomas Aquinas’ Danten Cosentino to make it 14-0 midway through the quarter.

Missouri got on the scoreboard with a touchdown in the final minute of the half and recovered a fumble in the red zone on the ensuing possession, but couldn’t score again before the break.

Another Missouri score and two-point conversion forced tie with 8:14 left in the third. Just 1:05 later, Cosentino hooked up with Shawnee Mission South’s Nick Oliver from 67 yards out to put Kansas back in front, 21-14.

Missouri got back within one with 9:05 to go in the fourth, then took its first lead of the game with a safety on the next Kansas drive. A backwards pass from Cosentino made its way out the back of the Kansas end zone, putting Missouri in front, 22-21.

Kansas got two chances to regain the lead in the final minutes, but the first drive ended with a missed field goal and the second ended with an incomplete pass as time expired.

Despite suffering the loss, Kansas outgained Missouri by a 311-207 margin. Complete statistics are available here.

Snyder will get one more chance to represent Tonganoxie when he plays in the Kansas Shrine Bowl on July 26 at Pittsburg State University.

“I want to do the same thing I did here: represent, be the best that I can be and hopefully get better for football in college,” he said.
