McLouth’s Steffey makes 400-meter finals at state
McLouth High senior Kayla Steffey highlighted the Bulldogs’ first day of the state track and field meet, earning a spot in the 400-meter dash finals Friday at Wichita State University’s Cessna Stadium.
Steffey finished eighth in the 400-meter prelims with a time of 1:03.06. She’ll run in the finals at 3:45 p.m. today. She’ll open competition with the 100-meter dash prelims at 8:30 a.m. If she finishes in the top eight, she’ll run in the finals at 12:45 p.m.
Several other Bulldogs were also in action Friday. Anna Moore finished ninth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.49) and 300-meter hurdles (50.47), while Drew Cerny placed 16th in the 200-meter dash (25.94). The boys 4×100-meter relay team of Jack Arnett, Hunter Terrell, Remington Courter and Sergio Hernandez also came in 16th (48.07). Arnett also took 15th individually in the 300 hurdles (45.01).
Courter, the Bulldogs’ only state qualifier in a field event, took 14th in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 2.75 inches.
Like Steffey, Cerny will run in the 100-meter prelims at 9 a.m. today If he makes the finals, he’ll run again at 1:05 p.m.
