The political landscape saw little change following Tuesday’s election.

Tonganoxie incumbent Republican Connie O’Brien scored 60 percent of the vote against Democratic challenger Austin Harris in the Kansas House District 42 race.

O’Brien tallied 3,979 votes to Harris’ 2,708.

O’Brien, first elected in 2008, staved off a challenge from Harris, a 19-year-old Washburn University student who graduated from Tonganoxie High School this past spring.

In other local races, Republican incumbent Willie Dove won re-election with 61 percent (4,817 votes) against Democrat Jan Pringle (2,340) and Libertarian F. Caleb Christopher (764) in the 38th District.

In the 40th District, Republican incumbent John Bradford had 54 percent of the vote (3,019) to Democrat Linda Johnson’s 46 percent (2,568).

In the 41st District, Republican Tony Barton defeated Democrat Nancy Bauder. Barton replaces Democrat Melanie Meier, who did not seek re-election because she was called away for active duty. Barton had 56 percent (2,177) to Bauder’s 44 percent (1,709).

In Jefferson County, Republican incumbent Ramon C. Gonzales Jr. defeated Democrat Bob Sirridge. Gonzales tallied 65 percent (4,968) to Sirridge’s 35 percent (2,718).

Leavenworth County voters mirrored statewide numbers in the race that grabbed national headlines. Republican incumbent Pat Roberts defeated Independent Greg Orman with 53 percent (449,054). Orman tallied 43 percent (358,460) and Libertarian Randall Batson had 4 percent (35,926) of the vote.

Roberts garnered 52 percent of the Leavenworth County vote.

The governor’s race had the same parallel numbers.

Republican incumbent Sam Brownback won 50 percent (422,824), while Democrat Paul Davis received 46 percent (390,051). Libertarian Keen A. Umbehr nabbed 4 percent (33,660). Brownback took 51 percent of vote among Leavenworth County voters.
