Tonganoxie police K9 unit receiving protective vest
The Tonganoxie Police Department’s K9 unit will be receiving a ballistic vest thanks to a nationwide Groupon event that raised more than $335,000.
The Occasions campaign for Groupon Grassroots to outfit police dogs with bullet and stab protective vests ran Feb. 15 through March 5. Groupon Grassroots selected Vested Interest in K9s as its charity partner for the campaign.
The organization will be providing more than 350 law enforcement dogs nationwide with protective body armor in memory of K9 Rocco for the Pittsburgh Police Department. The dog died in the line of duty in January 2014.
Tonganoxie police will receive one of the vests, which is valued at nearly $1,000.
