THS soccer stays hot with win vs. Cyclones
The Tonganoxie High soccer team extended its win streak to five games Thursday with a 3-1 victory at home against Kaw Valley League opponent Bishop Ward.
The Chieftains (9-3-1, 4-3 KVL) got on the scoreboard first when Logan Williams scored about 3:30 into the first half, but the Cyclones answered less than two minutes later. The teams traded possession for the next several minutes before Williams scored again with about 28 minutes left in the period. Neither team scored again before the break.
THS nearly made it a two-score game in the opening seconds of the second half, but couldn’t cash in on the opportunity. It put the game away with about five minutes left when Asher Huseman took the ball to the right corner and crossed it to Dawson Jones, who fired a shot into the net.
With the win, the Chieftains posted a league record above .500 for the third time in the last four seasons. They have won nine of their last 10 contests dating back to Sept. 9. They’ll be back at home Tuesday for a senior night matchup matchup with Maur Hill-Mount Academy. THS defeated the Ravens last season, 6-3.
