Tuesday is the last day to register to vote for those who want to vote in November’s general election. Advance voting begins as early as Oct. 15 in some counties.

To be eligible to vote in Kansas, a person must be a resident of Kansas at the time of registration, be 18 years of age or older at the time of voting and be a United States citizen. Individuals registering for the first time in Kansas are required to submit a document to prove their U.S. citizenship along with the completed voter registration application. There are two ways to register to vote: on paper or online. The paper application can be printed from http://www.sos.ks.gov/forms/elections/voterregistration.pdf or picked up at any county election office, at the secretary of state’s office, or at various sites around the state. Return the fully completed application with proof of citizenship in person to your county election office by the close of business. County addresses are listed on the back of the application. Or return the application by mail, by email, or by fax before midnight. Applications postmarked by the deadline of Oct. 14 will be accepted and processed for that election.

To register to vote online, a person must have a valid Kansas driver’s license or nondriver’s identification card and a pdf of his or her citizenship document. Access the website at https://www.kdor.org/voterregistration/, follow the directions, and upload the pdf document proving U.S. citizenship.

When voters receive their certificate of registration by mail from the county election office, they should make sure the information on it is accurate. If any information is incorrect, they should contact county election office to make the necessary changes.
