Face to Face: Tonganoxie USD 464 board clerk Audra Boone

By Shawn Linenberger - | Oct 28, 2014

Name: Audra Boone

Born: Kinsley

Family: Married to Jonathan Boone. They have five children, Jacob, 13; twins Afton and Aidan, 11; Johanna, 6; and Amalie, 2.

Occupation: Clerk for the Tonganoxie USD 464 Board of Education office.

Dream job as a child: Lawyer

Interesting facts: Boone grew up in a family of hunters and went hunting with her father as a child. She also was first-chair saxophone in high school and also played piano through high school.

Digging deeper: Boone grew up in Larned and graduated from Larned High School in 1996.

From there she attended Kansas University and earned a degree in accounting from KU.

She originally went to Mount Oread because she wanted to attend law school, but some early classes changed her direction.

“I’ve always been good at math and I took some accounting classes as an undergrad the first year or two there and really liked them,” Boone said. “That’s kind of what steered me toward getting a degree in accounting.”

While at KU she met her future husband, who is a millwright and a Tonganoxie High School graduate. She met him one night in Lawrence.

“He asked me to dance,” Boone said.

After graduating from KU, Boone worked in the accounting department at Multi Service, an Overland Park company that specializes in credit cards for the fleet and aviation industries.

She took a couple years off to stay with her children before landing a job at the board office in the Basehor-Linwood school district.

From there, she got a position with the Tonganoxie district.

Boone said it’s nice to work near her children for various reasons.

“I’m able to know everything that they do,” Boone said with a laugh. “They know that they can’t get away with anything without my finding out about it.”

Boone’s hobbies include reading and spending time with her family.

She stays busy with activities and organizations in the Tonganoxie area, as her family attends West Haven Baptist Church in Tonganoxie. She’s also involved with the church’s AWANA club every Wednesday night.

And the family belongs to the Reno Bobwhite 4-H Club.

But when Boone isn’t involved in her children’s activities, she’s out on the town with her husband.

They have season tickets this year to the ballet at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Mo., and the dinner theater at the New Theatre Restaurant in Overland Park.
