Competing this year in Lansing, the THS girls edged out the Lions for a 27-29 victory. The boys won in more comfortable fashion, 20-41.

Lansing’s Sara LaMoe won the girls individual title, but all six THS varsity runners finished in the top 10 to claim the team title. Isabella Behm led the charge, coming in second with a time of 18 minutes, 35 seconds. Emily Chambers joined Behm in the top five, placing fourth in 18:56.

The Lions also had the top boys finisher in Jack Bresser, but the Chieftains’ top five runners finished second through sixth. Drew Cook paced the team with his second-place time of 20:08, beating out third-place finisher Garrett French by just four seconds.

The junior varsity teams also opened their seasons Thursday. Led by first-place finisher Justin Patrick (21:53), the boys squeaked out a 27-28 win. Hope Creten (19:33) won the girls title, but the Lions won the team title, 27-28.

THS will return to action at 4 p.m. Thursday when it runs in the Holton Invitational.
